Backfat Variety 4th Anniversary Show

Larry Mancini and Emily Winter read scary choices from an illegible image behind them

By Andrew Andrews

As the name suggests, this monthly show at popular Cobble Hill bar & restaurant 61 Local always provides a variety of performers (with a slant toward comedy) along with games and prizes from hosts Larry Mancini and John Payne (of punk band The Tracys) and writer Emily Winter. Theoretically free, guests are expected to purchase drinks at the bar, and a tip jar is available for donations.

In addition to the regular allotment of stand-up comedians, this week’s show included a poll where the audience had to choose which scenario in each pair was more scary, with private label wine bottles raffled (for free) to three lucky audience members. They also premiered an original video, Office Lingo is Straight Up Nonsense.

The show consistently puts out more than the average comedy “variety” night, and this month’s special edition was no exception. They’re on hiatus for a few months, but in 2017, do yourself a favor and take the F/G train to Bergen Street and check out this standing-room-only show before it grows too popular to squeeze in the door! 5
