Bandits on the Run Triple Release Party

Bonanza Jellyfish plays cello with Roy Dodger on guitar as Clarissa sings on stage at American Beauty

By Andrew Andrews

Bandits on the Run is one of those quirky bands with a unique sound that you just have to check out. Under the monikers Bonanza Jellyfish (cello, vocals), Clarissa (vocals, percussion) and Roy Dodger (guitars, vocals), this trio blurs the lines between old-timey western, soulful folk and even punk rock to thrill unsuspecting audiences, whether you encounter them at a small venue or waiting on the platform for the L train. This show, in particular, was to celebrate their release of three new original songs as digital downloads from their website. The bandits were in great form and the crowd (which included a conga line led by a creature half-man, half-horse) was full of enthusiasm, making this a show worth dealing with midtown on a Thursday night. If you like music that crosses boundaries with open arms and smiling faces (and a few of Clarissa’s corny jokes), be sure to follow the Bandits and catch their next gig live. They’ll transport you from a basement bar to the New Mexico desert without getting dust on your boots!
