Yes, HISSIFIT is a modern twist on an ancient story: the tale of Medusa and her Gorgon sisters. But it’s also the history of every punk rock band that sold out in search of fame and fortune—a story that can only be told in a crowded basement with loud guitars, pounding drums and what almost resembles a mosh pit. It’s the version of Medusa that takes you back to the East Village in the 70s, with Athena and Aphrodite not as her punishers, but her teenage fan club! It’s the version that more-than-nods to VH1’s Behind the Music and calls to mind a bit of Eddie and the Cruisers. It’s the version that will make you feel like an underage kid in-the-know, someplace special, where something big is about to go down, earning bragging rights for years to come. Because, man, you were there. You saw it with your own two eyes. And it was SICK AF!
Will you need those earplugs? Probably not, but it won’t hurt to accept them, just in case. And here’s a pro-tip: if you’re on the shorter side, stand as far from the entrance as possible, diagonally from the drum set; taller folks, stay closer to the door. Will the shoe-gazing Perseus kill the rock star Medusa? Well, we don’t want to reveal any spoilers, even if the story is a couple millennia old. Find out for yourself, then come back to Opplaud and rate the show. Whether you like it, love it, or it isn’t your thing, your reviews help others decide if they should attend, and your ratings help us help you find other events and activities you’ll love!4
