Vera & Valya & The Magical One Cat Circus

Nadja Leonard-Hooper, Collin Knopp-Schwyn and Sarah Traisman as Valya, Skazka and Vera in their Magical One Cat Circus

By Andrew Andrews

If you haven’t already caught this play, then get yourself to Standard Toykraft for the final performance on Saturday, November 19th at 8pm! From the moment accordionist Charley Layton starts the show until the full-cast dance finale, the crew from Reckless Tricycle (including stars Sarah Traisman as Vera and Collin Knopp-Schwyn as Skazka) will have you laughing out loud at their corny puns, realistic cat-impersonating antics and the requisite cat-themed double entendres (even more hilarious with exaggerated Russian accents). We don’t want to give away too much of the plot, but suffice it to say that writer and director Nadja Leonhard-Hooper (who also stars as Valya) has written a masterpiece of humor that is skillfully performed by the small but talented cast (rounded out by Patrick Brady as Andrei and Jeremy Brick as Victor Voronin, co-directed by Olivia McGiff). Our only regret is that we didn’t attend sooner, so we’d have had more time to tell you (and all of our friends) what a great show this is! Kudos to The Tank for including this production in their Standard Toykraft residency, and congratulations to The Cat Circus for a job well done!
